This Volume is a wholly central European affair and looks at Alitalia and Swissair and how they mapped their network. Here are two airlines, divided by the alps that couldn’t be more different. Swissair served as the unofficial national carrier for Switzerland until 2002, when the most un-Swiss thing happened, it went bankrupt.
Alitalia, the proud but problematic Italian carrier, was also the official airline for the Vatican. The Volume looks at some of the many maps they made. It also includes an essay on a re-imagined flight from Rome to Brindisi alongside profiles of both airlines.
