Swissair served Switzerland until 2002 when the most un-swiss thing happened, they ran out of money and subsequently went bankrupt. On the other sides of the alps was Alitalia, which was the defacto national airline of Italy and the Vatican until October 2021, when it too stopped flying after decades of mismanagement and multiple ownerships. This Volume explores how both airlines mapped their network from the late 1940s to the 1980s.
